How Distance Sessions are Conducted
The following is a simplified explanation of the basic process of Biofield Tuning.
A standard Distance Biofield Tuning session is about 60 minutes in length. Distance sessions are usually held telephonically where both the client and the practitioner are present together on a telephone call for the duration of the session. The role of the client in a session is to focus their attention on their breath and to be aware of what they are noticing as the practitioner moves through their field with the tuning forks.
Biofield Tuning utilizes a combination of weighted and unweighted tuning forks. Unweighted tuning forks are the kind that people imagine when they think of tuning forks. These forks produce an audible sound that practitioners use as sonic feedback for any vibrational disruptions in the field. Every emotion encountered in the field (i.e. fear, alarm, sadness, depression) has a particular sonic signature that is picked up by the forks. The weighted forks, in contrast, produce less audible sound but generate and provide deep vibrations that allow practitioners to shift deeply-entrenched blockages in a client's biofield. These are what we practitioners think of as our “heavy lifters.” Practitioners use both the unweighted and weighted forks to comb through the field, but the weighted forks are also used to work directly on the client's body.
Each session begins by activating the client’s central energy channel, or sushumna (the Central Kundalini channel), that runs along the spine. This is a way to strengthen a client's overall energy system and call their awareness back to the present moment. The practitioner then reads the energetic blueprint of the client’s field by combing the forks through the energy field like a needle on a record, listening closely to any places of distortion. The record is read like rings on a tree, so that a client’s human timeline is close to birth at the far outer edge of the field, and their current age is located closer to the physical body. The sound waves produced by the tuning forks induce relaxation of the nervous system, recalibrate the body’s vibrational rhythms back to its “factory settings”, and magnetically shifts the body’s systems back into alignment.
When a client's central energetic axis is tilting either to the right or left sides of their Biofield due to these frozen biophotons (stuck particles of light energy), they struggle to be in the present moment and become out-of-balance because their energies are quite literally tied up in the past, bound up in their memories, stuck in old stories, traumas and pain. As a practitioner combs through a client's energy field, the practitioner is freeing up and collecting all of the different, spread-out energy particles (biophotons, light energy) from where they’ve been scattered, stuck and frozen, and bring them back into the neutral midline with the help of the coherent input of the forks. As the practitioner return these biophotons into the central channel, they are bringing the client back into the present moment and returning more electricity back into circulation. Decreasing the “signal-to-noise” ratio in the biofield allows energy and information to flow more freely throughout the body, enhancing proper function and strengthening overall health. When a client finishes a session, the response is often, “I feel lighter.” Clients look and feel lighter.
How to Prepare for a Distance Session
- Wear comfortable clothes – you will be lying down on a bed or couch or sitting in a chair in your home that you find to be comfortable.
- Have your cellphone and earbuds (if you use them) fully charged prior to the start of the session.
- Remove your shoes, especially rubber-soled shoes.
- Remove any electronic devices that you normally wear such as Smart watches, Apple Watches, Oura rings, and the like.
- Do not eat a big heavy meal beforehand. If you do eat before the session, consider having only light meal or snack.
- Make sure you are well hydrated! Due to the sound-conductive properties of water, sound travels much faster in water and allows the treatments to be more effective, and being well-hydrated also greatly reduces any potential chance that your body has a detox response (often called a "healing response") afterwards.
- Setting an intention beforehand for what you wish to receive during your session is also highly beneficial.
- Come to the session with an open, receptive mind. Your expectations and mindset play a major role in the effectiveness of the treatments, as well as your self-care habits on a daily basis.
After the Distance Session has been completed, within 2 to 3 business days your practitioner will text or email you a picture of your "table" along with a pdf document containing the notes he/she has noted down and typed up of what was found in the client's Biofield during the session.
After-Session Client Care
- Hydrotherapy – Drinking plenty of water after a session is highly recommended to help aid the body with proper hydration. Consider soaking either your feet or your whole body in a mineral or Epsom salt bath for 20 minutes minimum. This supports the body in detoxifying and releasing any physical components from the blockages released from the energy field.
- Rest & Downtime – Avoid planning any activities in your schedule immediately after the session; many people need a bit of down time, and ample rest gives your body a chance to process and integrate what was received during the session. Consider taking a nap. Be mindful of getting enough or more sleep than usual to support your body's healing experience.
- Earthing & Grounding – In temperate climates, it is highly recommended to spend some time walking barefoot outside in the grass or soil after your session. If you live near the ocean, consider taking a barefoot walk on the beach. Connecting your bare feet to the Earth will help ground your body, drawing excess energy down and out of your body, and drawing the Earth’s negatively charged ions up into the body. This helps create a state of electromagnetic equilibrium in the system which can potentially relieve a wide variety of discomforts. If you are not in an area where you can go outside, consider purchasing a grounding mat or sheet to conveniently use in your home.
- Awareness Homework & Journaling – Becoming well-balanced usually requires a change in perception and/or our actions. Simply becoming more aware of our habitual and subconscious behaviors (i.e., becoming aware of ourselves from the place of “the witness”) broadens the trajectory of our life’s possibilities, and ultimately, we become more free to choose healthy and self-supporting behaviors. Consider journaling while sitting outside in the sun as a way to be mindfully present with your experience or simply to document your journey.
Detox Process & Healing Response
Everyone is different and will have a unique experience of a Reiki or Biofield Tuning treatment. After a session, most people report feeling lighter, clearer, calmer, more relaxed, more self-aware, and energized. *Sometimes* clients will experience a detox response, which can vary greatly. Some clients have reported:
- Profound exhaustion/tiredness/fatigue/lethargy, needing to sleep or lay low for a day or more. Generally, this happens to people who have been “running on empty” or “burning the candle at both ends”.
- Waves of emotions: Extreme emotionalism, or being very aware of formerly masked or buried emotions— crying, being angry, sad or hyperemotional.
- Flu-like symptoms
- Headaches and/or dizziness
- Increased activity with dreams
- In very rare instances: skin rashes, mucus, fever, vomiting, loose stools, excessive thirst.
Generally, these symptoms are simply a manifestation of detoxification and is your body’s way of releasing stress/trauma. These healing responses usually pass within 1-3 days, but if a condition persists, it is important to see me again — sooner rather than later. Sometimes people can get “stuck” in the unwinding process and need an additional boost to complete the adjustments and help get things moving along. Contraindications
There are no contraindications with Reiki which is safe for everyone and gentle enough to be used on anyone with any condition. Biofield Tuning, however, is contraindicated for these conditions:
- Active Cancer – Once cancer has advanced in the body, detox pathways are often compromised, and the body may have difficulty digesting newly introduced energetic input. The body also may not have the resources to effectively manage detox symptoms that may result from Biofield Tuning. (These statements refer to cancer that is active and/or in treatment; NOT to cancer that is in remission.)
- End of Life/Terminal Illness – Biofield Tuning may overwhelm end-of-life body systems which are often in a depleted energetic state. End-of-life detox may be uncomfortable as the body’s systems are compromised and may not have the resources to effectively manage detox symptoms. Certain components of Biofield Tuning have been used as a means of calming the nervous system during end-of-life circumstances to ease transitions.
- Pregnancy – During pregnancy, the body expends a tremendous amount of energy. Biofield Tuning may overwhelm this already overextended system. The body may not have the resources to effectively manage detox symptoms which may affect both mother and baby. Components of Biofield Tuning have been used to promote relaxation during pregnancy.
- Electrical Medical Implants (Pacemakers, Medtronic Pumps, Neural Implants) – Tuning forks may interfere with the electrical functioning of these devices due to the added vibrational input. No reports of ill effects have been associated with newer pacemakers; we would proceed with caution, careful observation, and the advice of your medical professional.
- Recent Concussions – When the brain is swollen, it takes time for the inflammation to resolve. I suggest waiting at least 3 months after a significant injury for the brain to heal before receiving Biofield Tuning on or around the head. The rest of the body can receive gentle tuning shortly after injury occurs. Each case is different— with mild concussions, components of Biofield Tuning may be used before the 3 month waiting period.
- Morbid Obesity – Suppressed emotions and energy can be held in adipose tissue. If there is extensive adipose tissue, Biofield Tuning may result in unpredictable and strong emotional releases and/or uncomfortable detox responses. Individuals may be more comfortable receiving Biofield Tuning while seated versus on a treatment table.
- Metal Toxicity – A Biofield Tuning session may initiate a large release of toxins from cells, resulting in discomfort. Some individuals with heavy metal toxicity have experienced a strong detox response following a Biofield Tuning session. Consider seeking help from additional modalities, such as vitamins and supplements, that may support the detoxification process.
- Considerations – If you take any medications, have large varicose veins, dental anomalies (dental implants, chipped/broken teeth, bone fragments in gums), epilepsy, thyroid issues, fractured/broken bones, and/or metal implants (metal rods, screws, plates), please mention them on the intake form you will receive upon booking a session. Depending on the issue, I will either avoid certain areas altogether, use lighter pressure, or a gentler technique with the tuning forks. Disclosing an accurate health history is important and determines which treatment will be most beneficial for you. Your information is kept confidential and will not be shared with anyone.
How Many Sessions Do I Need?
Every session builds upon the last, creating a powerful cumulative effect that supports your body’s natural healing process. Because each person’s body and life journey is completely unique, the number of sessions you may need can vary. Factors such as your genetic makeup, personal health history, and the nature of the issue you’re addressing all play a role. That said, many people begin their journey with a series of at least three sessions, ideally spaced 1–2 weeks apart. After that, we can reassess together to determine what’s best for you moving forward.
Some clients notice significant shifts even after just one session, while others find that 3–5 sessions bring lasting relief and noticeable improvements. Once your body has reached a more balanced state, you may choose to come in for occasional “tune-ups,” whenever you feel called to restore, realign, and recharge.
Healing is a layered process, often revealing what’s ready to be released and transformed, one step at a time. Just like we wouldn’t expect a toned body after a single workout, deep and lasting healing takes time, consistency, and care. The patterns and discomfort you’re experiencing didn’t appear overnight—and true transformation unfolds with patience and nurturing.
